This interview with a Marine scout sniper (whose own "miracle shot" was co-opted for the movie) talks about some of the things AS got right, including the effect on the families back home. Interesting read.

I thought the home scenes were some of the most interesting in the movie, but oddly didnt give Cooper much to do, since his main emotion was numbness. Nobody gets an Oscar for acting blank. And Eastwood wanted to make an action movie, so he focused on the Iraq side of the story. Hopefully somebody will make a great Home Front movie or TV series about the decade of Iraq/Afghanistan warfare.
